Healing Services

HEALING SERVICES

The Church has developed many healing services in its history.  The most formal are those connected with the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) and Anointing of hte sick.  In our own day other services have developed to expand this ministy so that the faithful might be prepared for and experience Jesus’ healing power.

Jesus went about healing in public and this is a ministry which some with the charism of Healing have today. Most public healing ministry today happens within the context of a service.   Healing is not a marginal activity in the Church’s ministry. It was central to Jesus’  ministry with his preaching, it showed that he was the Messiah, he gave it as a sign and energy to his disciples for their use, and it is the foundation of two of the Sacraments of the Church – anointing of the sick and Reconciliation.

I discern that there are FOUR main areas in which Christians pray for and  expect healing

SPIRITUAL HEALING.

this may include praying for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit but it is also involves praying against oppression by the powers of evil.

PRAYING FOR THE HEALING OF THE FAMILY TREE.

This ministry is a recent development. It arise because of the awareness that some families have experiences of conflict, pain, illness, weakness or addiction which seem to come through the generations.  This ministry is to break the power of the past by Jesus who is outside space and outside time.

PRAYING FOR PHYSICAL HEALING

This has always been the most visible but not necessarily the most important of all the healings which Jesus performs in his Church.

PRAYING FOR INNER HEALING.

In the lives of all of us there has been hurts and damage which happened through circumstances and persons often when we were young, even before we were born. This ministry prays for Jesus who is outside time and outside space to enter into those moment of pain and heal them so that their effects do not continue to distort our human and spiritual lives.
