Mount Grace Walk

The Mount Grace Walk in the summer term which was sometimes for charity and others to raise money – eg. for the video, was a mammoth affair.  Beginning at Mount Grace with Mass and walking through  the town by the reservoir lakes to Black Hambleton and down to Arden Hall – lunch in the churchyard and then walks through Hawnby to the forestry road to Rievaulx, through the village and up to the long field to the main road at Tom Smith’s Cross.  Then the final trek back to JH.  Most were back by 7 pm. and the fast walkers and runners were even playing cricket after supper.   It was a mammoth achievement for small boys – 10-13 – some 25 miles.  Thought many got very tired they soon recovered once they had had a rest.   Parents sometimes joined in.
